Second Quarter Final Art Project:Paper Armor
During the second quarter, we worked with many techniques for manipulating paper. As a final project, I worked with two other students to create a medieval samurai suit of armor out of paper. The armor had to be fully functioning and had to fit one of the students so we could display the full set of armor. All of the armor and even the sword is made out of paper. We developed the armor using the design process. We first did some brainstorming to get some ideas. Next we created a prototype and presented our idea to the class and received feedback. We then spent the next two weeks constructing the armor by folding, taping, and sewing. The quality that is best represented by this project is persistence because we had to fold a lot of paper to create the plate armor in the front and there was a lot of sewing needed to assemble all the pieces of the armor. Another quality that is presented is creativity because finding the folding techniques we liked for each part required a lot of creative random folding to find just the right way to fold it.
